Llanddewi Rhydderch Festival Choir

A choir based in Llanddewi Rhydderch, Monmouthshire but open to singers from anywhere.

Llanddewi Rhydderch Festival Choir is a project driven choir. That is, choral projects are set up and interested people register for that project. Registration for any one particular project does NOT commit a singer to participating in any other similar projects run by the choir.

There are no regular rehearsals so, when each project is set up, a short series of rehearsals is also announced. These are usually tiered. That is, singers can choose to attend several rehearsals, or just a few, depending on their level of skill.

Repertoire

The choir sings music from across a wide variety of types. Christmas concerts have covered a range from Medieval carols to popular Christmas songs, and Summer concerts have been a mix of familiar songs from the 20th and 21st centuries mixed with folk songs and .... well, anything which seems suitable.

One special feature of the choir is how the music is arranged for them. At present, most of the singers do not describe themselves as experienced vocalists able to use their voices over a large range. Similarly, some of them are not used to singing in harmony.

To accommodate this, the music is arranged with an Essential part (that is, the part which throughout holds the melody, and a number of optional parts which may be included or omitted as the need arises.

As the division between singers who want to sing the Essential part of the Optional parts does not correspond to the traditional division of voices into soprano, alto, tenor, and bass, all parts are kept within a range which most voices can manage. There are no very high or very low notes.

Cost

There is no charge, per se, for belonging to the choir. However, at the end of each project, a collection is taken to cover the costs, such as publicity, printing, heating and lighting.
